I think, SVG.org is a platform for discussion and information, not for ads.

I think a box with google adsense on the right site is totally ok, it´s a kind way of advertising and not aggressive like blinking banners...

I don't see ads as being a problem at all, as long as they are not everywhere and in your face like at some sites.
Actually I would encourage svg.org to make a little money and invest more in the site development and stuff :-)

Its a really useful resource, and I think advertising would devalue it.

Ads are ok as long they don't disturb the information and content on the page. A few small and non animated banners are ok.
