Nintendo Wii Browser by Opera Supports SVG

Nintendo' new next-generation Wii gaming system was just released worldwide, and as previously announced, includes a Web browser based on the Opera for Devices SDK. While this was announced a while ago already, few details were known about what version of the Opera rendering engine was going to be used, and thus what Web standards would be supported on the console. It is now known that the engine powering the Wii browser supports SVG 1.1 natively, much like the Opera 9 browser that was recently released. This SVG support in Nintendo's will greatly contribute to the increased support of SVG on the Web, regardless of what the type of device is running the browser, as SVG is already widely supported on mobile phones and on desktop computers.

Bought a Wii for my kids for Christmas and one of the many features I like is the wireless motion detecting controllers. Am a little upset there are only a couple of games but I am sure more are to come.Glad to see they are using the best browser out there for surfing the web via the station, just another reason to buy one if you ask me. Ive recently started using Opera, and it is a great browser, now If I could only get my hands on a wii :)

After waiting a long time i have now a Wii and for me the best is the compatibility to the Nintendo Gamecube, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, PC-Engine / TurboGrafx 16 and to the Sega Mega Drive. For most of the systems i have to buy a Wii points, but it´s really cool to play the old bomberman on this console...

Great news about Wii support for Opera and SVG. Lets just hope that firefox support for wii will soon follow.
